Jace Walters of Walters Brothers Recreation

I was sitting in the middle of our 2 person tree stand and I don't know why but after about five minutes I looked behind the tree I was on. I saw a fawn behind me walking up on me so I scooted to the left to see it better. I turned my sight on and when I was looking through it I was silent. I tried to shoot the fawn with my crossbow but it wasn't working and I thought it was broke. I called my dad crying and told him I saw a fawn and wanted to shoot it but I couldn't because my safety was broken. He came back and calmed me down, I was still crying and upset because I missed the only deer I had a shot at. He showed me that my safety was not broken, that the bolt slid forward a little keeping the safety from disengaging because it didn't think it had a bolt in it anymore.
My dad went back out to try and kick up deer for me again. Now like two minutes later the momma deer came walking up behind me too. I turned my safety off and when I was looking through my sight for this deer I said "I'm going to get you". It was a hard shot and my bolt went through a couple tree branches but at the last tree the bolt just hit it and I did not get the deer. So I called my dad and told him I shot at a deer. He did not believe that I just saw two deer like that in under 10 minutes because we were hunting for three months and we only saw two deer.
When my dad came back to the tree stand he asked me how I felt after taking my first shot at a deer. I told him I felt tingly because it was the first deer I got to shoot at. I was still excited and happy that I got to shoot, but was mad and upset that I missed the deer. My dad told me how old he was when he got his first deer and how old my brother Fin was when he got his deer. I still have time to get a deer before they did. Later on I talked on the phone to my Grampa K, and he told me deer he missed so then I felt better too.
The first time I saw a deer on our hunting trips where we hunted I came face to face with a 8 point deer at 10 yards when I went out and trying to kick up deer for my dad. I was so panicky when I saw it and we just starred at each other for a minute, then he turned around and ran away. I could see my dad in the tree stand down the track and he saw me, but I was just frozen stiff and he couldn't see the deer that was staring at me. I was so mad at my dad because he didn't let me carry my crossbow with me because it is kinda heavy and he was worried I couldn't carry it for a long time. After I came back to the tree stand and I told him what happened, he let me carry my crossbow by myself from that day on. The other deer we saw was the 4 pointer that my dad got, he got the deer because I kinda fell asleep in the tree stand next to him so I couldn't shoot it. I fell asleep because we woke up so early to go hunting before I had to go to school. We would only get to hunt for about an hour, but it was an hour that I was always waiting for.
That is the end of my last day of deer hunting with my dad, I can't wait to go again.
