Rebecca Vogel
I am Rebecca Vogel, I am 14 years old and I live in Thief River Falls, MN with my family. My hobbies include sewing and babysitting, band, piano, and my passion is archery. I started in my local 4-H Shooting Sports club because I wanted to hunt, and it was difficult to draw a rifle tag in North Dakota where we lived at the time. I shot 4-H archery for 2 ½ years before I joined Form First JOAD. Through 4-H tournaments I saw other archers that had different setups than the rest of us, which I later found out was a “target setup”. I was interested in getting into target, so I started working with Lee and Penny Hetletved in Bismarck, ND. Lee works with me on my form and Penny works with me on mental management. My happy place is working with Coach Lee and Coach Penny at their home in Bismarck. I have learned so much and continue to improve with their help. Shortly after working with the Hetletveds, I was accepted into North Central Elite Archers. I am also working with Christian Williams from Archery Strong as a strength and conditioning coach. Christian customizes workouts to help me meet my goals and build muscle to improve my form and execution.
North Central Elite Archers was founded by Coach Linda Beck in 2015. What started out as a regional team that consisted of North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin is now international. The team has around 50 archers and 5 coaches (Linda Beck, Lee and Penny Hetletved, Jack Moulton, and Dan Hastings). NCEA holds camps 4 times a year (2 indoor, 2 outdoor). Since I have been on the team, I have made lots of friends. Seeing everyone at shoots and camps is always exciting (especially if you are bale mates). We like spending time with each other outside of archery tournaments and camps as well. My favorite indoor shoot is Vegas, and my favorite outdoor shoot is NFAA Outdoor Field Nationals. I have shot major shoots with NCEA since I have been on the team. This year was to be my first full year of shooting all the major USA Archery events and one USAT. Unfortunately, COVID did not allow that. I am a member of the Thief River Falls Archery Club and participate in outdoor 50-meter league and indoor leagues in season. Currently I have two sponsors, Badlands Bowstrings and Archery Country. Badlands Bowstrings is a company run by Shannon Schlinger. He builds my bow strings and cables in his shop and the strings are awesome. www.badlandsbowstrings.com . Archery Country is a pro shop with three locations (Rogers, MN the store I use) that is for both hunting and target archers. The service is amazing. They have helped me learn how to make my own arrows and know more about my equipment. They have also helped me know what is important in the shooting field. Wade Grinager has been terrific at helping me set up my bow and answering all my questions, even when my dad texts him after hours he always makes time to help me out. www.archerycountry.com . My goal is to become a pro archer and inspire others to join the sport. Archery is such an amazing sport and I want others to experience it as well. There are different events to choose from which makes archery even better. In the sport I have made incredible friends and the people in the sport are so nice and kind.
